If your holiday season is anything like mine, it starts to get crazy in mid-October and doesn’t stop until January. Inevitably, I’ll be asked by friends, family (or regulars!) to design or bring a cocktail for their event. Here’s this year’s “Pomegranate Standby” cocktail, which I’ll typically use for all cocktail requests this season.

The Pomegranate Standby

This is my "standby" cocktail when folks ask for a tasty holiday drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Reduced Pomegranate Juice
  • 1/2 oz Ginger and Rosemary Simple Syrup
  • 3/4 oz Lime Juice
  • 1 1/2 oz Nolet's Gin
  • 3 oz Brachetto d'Acqui

Ginger and Rosemary Simple Syrup

  • 5 sprigs Rosemary
  • 1 oz Fresh Ginger chopped roughly
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

Prepare the Pomegranate Juice

  • Reduce Pomegranate juice by heating it on the stovetop to a light boil until it has reduced by half. Cool completely before using.

Ginger and Rosemary Simple Syrup

  • Add sugar and water to a saucepan and heat to just slightly boiling.
  • Simmer on a light boil for about 15 minutes.
  • Fine-strain and let cool completely.

The Cocktail:

  • Place the simple syrup, Pomegranate juice, lime juice and Nolet’s gin in a shaker. Add ice and shake.
  • Fine strain into a Collins glass & glass and top off with Brachetto d’Acqui.
  • Garnish with Pomegranate seeds and a sprig of Rosemary
