When the good folks from Chila ‘Orchata sent us a bottle to try, I was definitely curious.  I’ve had my fair share of cream liqueurs, but I hadn’t tried this one before.  When it arrived just a few days ago I knew the moment I read the label – this was going to be a take on the Brandy Milk Punch, and somehow I wanted orange flavor involved.

I tasted the Chila ‘Orchata and really enjoyed the sweet and spiced flavor, but was surprised to notice it was only 13.75% ABV. I decided I’d need to bring up the proof a little, but didn’t want to change the sweetness. One trip back to the bar (and a good dusting) later, I found my bottle of Rhum Clement Creole Shrub. For some reason I never think of this bottle as an ingredient, but when I work with it I’m always glad I did. It brings the bright orange zest flavor without overwhelming it with sweetness – that’s what sets it apart from other orange liqueurs.

I threw these two together in a glass and … we were close! It was VERY rich, however and I wanted to calm it down. Chris suggested… milk. Of course! One ounce of milk was exactly what we needed.

The final product was complete… and gone in far shorter time than I care to admit!
