Tales of the Cocktail: Tuesday, 7/15/14 – Day 1

Tuesday is our unofficial start of Tales of the Cocktail, and one of the slower days for the events calendar. This is a good opportunity to get checked in to registration, say hi to a few friends you haven’t seen since last year and dine in the places that are going to be too busy when Tales gets underway.

Food & Drink:

We got a chance to go to some of the places we missed last year and started off our New Orleans experience by grabbing a Sazerac and Planters Punch at The Old Absinthe House followed by oysters and some Cajun food at Acme Oyster House. (Yes, there was a line out front – but it moved quickly!)

The First Party at Tales: Third Annual Ode to the Bowl

In a nut shell, it’s a celebration of punch bowls, bowling, and a great venue.

The Ode to the Bowl is held at one of the coolest bars/bowling alleys in New Orleans –  the Rock n’ Bowl.  There were countless delicious punch bowls scattered through the venue, and Kahlua brought the dessert with ice cream cocktails and an awesome Kahlua Ice Cream Sandwich.

We got a chance to meet some great people and have some amazing drinks, but being the first day of Tales (and since we’d just flown in on a red-eye last night), we decided to take it easy and make it an early night.

What’s Coming Up:

Tomorrow we’re in full swing! Here are the events I’m looking forward to the most:

Chartreuse in a Bottle

Hi, my name is Chris and I have a Chartreuse problem. When I saw this event pop up on the Tales calendar I couldn’t sign up fast enough! I’m looking forward to tasting some rare and very old Chartreuse and meeting the folks at the brand.

Training Craft Bartenders

This session’s all about training bartenders beyond just learning recipes. I have a lot to learn in this area and look forward to taking a lot of notes!

Julia’s going to: “How to Win Cocktail Competitions”

She’ll be learning about the art of Cocktail Competitions and some tips & tricks to help improve a bartender’s chance of winning. We’re planning on doing a video on this after Tales as well!king a lot of notes!

That’s a Wrap for Day 1!

Come back tomorrow for more pictures, videos, and we’ll try to include some of our notes from the seminars.
